SBI: Change in ATM Withdrawal System

The State Bank of India (SBI), on 24 October 2021, published a tweet on its official handle regarding safeguarding against fraud. The SBI has announced an OTP based cash withdrawal system for transactions at SBI ATMs.

The official handle tweeted, “Our OTP based cash withdrawal system for transactions at SBI ATMs is a vaccination against fraudsters. Protecting you from frauds will always be our topmost priority.” There is a video attached with the tweet.

The OTP-based cash withdrawal system is applicable for Rs.10,000 and above cash withdrawals for SBI ATMs. SBI customers need to withdraw Rs.10,000 or above and use the OTP sent along with the debit card PIN. The OTP is a four-digit number.

To avail of this facility, the customers need to withdraw cash from an SBI ATM.  The registered mobile number receives an OTP per transaction. After entering the amount of withdrawal on the machine, the ATM screen will display the OTP screen. Enter the OTP sent on the registered mobile number with the ATM.

The added step is an additional factor of authentication to protect the customers from financial fraud.

SBI is a Fortune 500 company and the largest commercial bank, headquartered in Mumbai. It holds over a quarter of the market share with over 62,000 ATMs/ADWMs and is prevalent in 31 foreign countries.
