Deadline Alert: Link PAN-Aadhaar within 30th June

The last date to link PAN with Aadhaar is near. You can link your PAN-Aadhaar by 30th June 2023 after paying the fee of Rs.1,000 on the income tax portal. As per the Income Tax Act, it is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. The PAN card will become invalid if it is not linked with the Aadhaar by 30th June.

The Income Tax Department tweeted on 13th June, urging individuals to link their PAN with Aadhaar. It also stated that as per the Income Tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for all PAN cardholders, who do not fall under the exempt category, to link their PAN with their Aadhaar on or before 30th June 2023.

Steps to link PAN with Aadhaar

You can link your PAN with your Aadhaar only after you have paid the penalty of Rs.1,000. Click here to know how to pay the penalty of Rs.1,000 on the Income Tax e-filing portal. The process to link PAN-Aadhaar is as follows:

Step 1: Go to the Income Tax e-filing portal – https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/

Step 2: Click the ‘Link Aadhaar’ tab under quick links.

Step 3: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and click ‘Validate’.

Step 4: Enter your name as per your Aadhaar card and mobile number and click ‘Link Aadhaar’.

Step 5: Next, enter the OTP received on your mobile number and click the ‘Validate’ button.

Step 6: The request for the PAN-Aadhaar link will be sent to the UIDAI for validation.

Consequences of not linking PAN-Aadhaar

  • If you have not linked your PAN with your Aadhaar, your PAN will be inoperative; as a result, you will not receive income tax refunds.
  • TDS is deducted at a higher rate when your PAN is not linked to Aadhaar.
  • TCS is also collected at a higher rate when your PAN is not linked to your Aadhaar.

The Income Tax Department extended the deadline for linking PAN-Aadhaar earlier this year.

They may not extend the deadline further. Thus, ensure you complete the linking of your PAN-Aadhaar by 30th June.
