A Step-by-Step Guide to Change Name on PAN Card

For some reason, if an individual looks forward to changing the name on their Permanent Account Number (PAN) card, it is quite possible to do so. The Income-tax department allows an individual to change the name on a PAN card via online mode.
The process to name change on a PAN card can be initiated as follows:

Log on to: https://www.utiitsl.com/
Select PAN Card Services and click on Apply PAN Card from the drop-down
Go to Change/ Correction in PAN Card
Then select Apply for Change/ Correction in PAN Card details
You will be directed to a page titled: Application for Change/ Correction in PAN Data

Then, an individual will be directed to select two options: Physical (Forward Application with documents physically) and Digital (Paperless). In this case, select Digital.

Further, an individual is required to select the Aadhaar-based e-KYC option (Details of the resident are fetched based on the Aadhaar Number from the UIDAI Server) . After this, it selects the option Sign Using Aadhaar-based eSign (Signing of the Application is done using Aadhaar-based eSign).

Key in the PAN and select the PAN card mode, that is, whether an individual wants to opt for a physical PAN card as well as an updated PAN card (both physical and e-PAN) or need only an e-PAN. This is followed by pressing the Submit button.

Fill in the details in the application form with the relevant information and pay the fees. The fee for a name change on a PAN card is Rs110 for a contact address within the country and Rs 1,020 for a contact address outside India.

This will be followed by an Aadhaar authentication process, which will be on a real-time basis from the UIDAI server. The application will be processed further after this.

In the case of eKYC services, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the UIDAI-registered mobile number. Once the OTP is keyed in and consent in the requisite box is ticked, an individual’s address from the UIDAI database will be populated in the PAN form.

An individual is required to verify the application data in addition to providing other details and submit.

Another OTP for eSign will be received and on keying in the OTP, the application will be signed via an Aadhaar-based e-signature.

Subsequently, the application will be saved and processed further by UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Ltd (UTIITSL) for PAN card name change with the help of Aadhaar.
