The Aadhaar card is a 12 digit number assigned by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It serves as an identity and address proof. It is mandatory to link your Aadhaar card to your bank account. Banks can deactivate the account if it is not linked with Aadhaar.
The linking of the Aadhaar card with the bank account can be done both offline and online. The linking process is similar for most banks. Banks usually provide 6 different options to link Aadhaar with your bank account. It can be done either through the online mode or the offline mode or via SMS.
Some banks also provide an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) facility which can be accessed through the mobile phone. Once the process is completed and the Aadhaar card has been linked to the bank account, your bank will send you a confirmation SMS.
These are the 6 different ways of linking your Aadhaar card with your bank account:

Internet Banking
- Log in to your bank account through the net banking facility using your customer id and password.
- Click on the ‘View/Update Aadhaar card details’ button.
- Enter the 12 digit Aadhar card number.
- You need to self verify the entered data and confirm it by clicking on the confirm button.
- Bank will then validate and verify the information entered. Once the process is completed you will receive a confirmation message from the bank on your registered mobile number.

Visiting the Bank Branch
You can also get your Aadhaar linked to your bank account by visiting the bank’s branch. Here’s how:
- Visit the bank’s branch and fill the ‘bank account Aadhaar linking form’ or you can also download it from the bank’s website.
- Fill in the 12 digit Aadhaar card number and other required information.
- Submit the form with a self-attested copy of the Aadhaar card. For verification purposes, you might need to show the original Aadhaar card at the bank.
- Once the process of linking is completed, you will receive a confirmation message from the bank on your registered mobile number.

SMS
The linking of the Aadhaar card to the bank account can also be done via SMS. However, such facility is provided by only a few banks.
- You need to send a text message in this format: UID<space>Aadhaar card number<space>bank account number and send it to the number provided by the bank
- Send the text message through your registered mobile number.
- You will receive a message stating whether the request is accepted or not.
- Bank will validate the Aadhaar details with UIDAI.
- Once the process of linking is completed, you will receive a confirmation message from the bank on your registered mobile number.

ATM
- Visit the nearest ATM. Swipe up your debit card and enter the 4 digit passcode.
- Select the ‘Services’ option. Under the ‘Services’ option select the option ‘Registrations’.
- Under that tap on the ‘Aadhaar Registration option’. Then select your account type ‘savings or current account’, enter the 12 digit Aadhaar card number and click ‘OK’.
- Once the process of linking is completed, you will receive a confirmation message from the bank on your registered mobile number.
5. Mobile Phone:
The linking can be done through Mobile phones too. Here’s how:
- Call the number provided by the bank.
- If the bank provides the linking facility via IVR, then give a missed on the number provided by the bank.
- You will then receive a call from your bank. Select the option ‘IVR’, when asked. Enter the 12 digit Aadhaar card number and confirm it.
- Once the process of linking is completed, you will receive a confirmation message from the bank on your registered mobile number.

Mobile App
Almost all banks provide this facility.
- Log in to your bank’s mobile app.
- Select the option ‘Service Request’. Then click on to ‘view your aadhaar details’.
- Carefully fill in the aadhaar details and click on submit.
- Post verification you will get a message that your aadhaar number has been successfully linked to your bank account.
