The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced an extension to the deadline to seed Aadhaar with a Universal Account Number (UAN). The deadline has been shifted to 31 December 2021, according to the circular released and shared on Twitter by the EPFO. This extension is only applicable to certain establishments.
Considering the challenges faced by the employers and employees due to the second wave, the EPFO had extended the deadline to 1 September 2021. However, regions and establishments with low Aadhaar penetration, such as the North East Zone and certain classes of establishments and industries, namely building and construction, beedi making and plantation, are yet to seed their Aadhaar with UAN.
Regional Offices and District Offices are required to facilitate and coordinate with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
According to the circular, there will be camps for Aadhaar enrollment and corrections in existing Aadhaar data for EPF members.
1 June 2021 was the initial deadline for seeding Aadhaar with UAN, which was moved to 1 September 2021 for all EPF members. Overall, 94% of contributory EPF members have their Aadhaar seeded with UAN to claim benefits under the schemes provided or withdraw funds.
