Income tax department answers queries of taxpayers on social media

Taxpayers ask queries to the income tax department on social media such as Twitter. The income tax department directly answers some of these queries. The queries range from non-issue of refund, processing of income tax return to rectification and any other tax assistance. For others, the department requires the taxpayer to submit a form to have their queries answered.

The form requires a taxpayer to fill the details mentioned below:

  1. Name of the taxpayer
  2. Permanent Account Number (PAN)
  3. Assessment year (AY)
  4. Mobile number
  5. Email ID
  6. Description of the query or concern
  7. Social media platform (Twitter, Facebook, Quora or others)
  8. Social media user ID
  9. Captcha code as displayed

Upon submission of the details mentioned above, the taxpayer will receive a ticket id as well as a text message on their mobile number.

The income tax department had also issued FAQs to assist taxpayers in the filing their income tax returns. The department also seeks to carry out assessments electronically. Also, the department has introduced a scheme for e-assessment of income tax returns. Thus, the department is seeking to remove the interface between the taxpayer and the taxman.
