GST Council Meet Adjourned – Deadline for GSTR 3B extended

The 33rd GST council which was to meet on the 20th of February has been adjourned. The Council will now meet on the  24th of February, coming Sunday. In a press conference, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stated that due to the gravity of the decisions that need to be taken the council will reassemble on Sunday.

Mr Jaitley further added that “I have always followed the approach of moving as per consensus and some of the states wanted meeting where members are physically present, keeping the idea of consensus in mind, I adjourn the meeting to Sunday (February 24)”

Early this morning a total of six State FMs decided not to attend the meeting, as they were opposed to the idea of the Council meet being held via video conference. Manish Sisodia, FM of Delhi while addressing the media said that “crucial matters” should be discussed face-to-face.

The council was set to discuss pressing issues relating to real estate and lottery.  However, post the opposition’s disapproval to attend, the meeting was pushed to Sunday to accommodate their demands better.

Mr Arun Jaitely in the same press conference announced that the deadline for GSTR 3B would be extended by two days, 22nd February. Whereas the due date for filing GSTR-3B for January 2019 in the State of Jammu & Kashmir is extended till 28th February 2019. The extension was issued in line with a recent clarification via circular asking taxpayers to make sure table 3.2 of GSTR-3B is populated.

Table 3.2 of GSTR – 3B used for the filling of the details of inter-state supplies made by the taxpayer to unregistered persons where the invoice value does not exceed Rs 2.5L. This information is also provided in Table 7B of GSTR-1.

It is essential that taxpayers make sure they are also reporting it in GSTR-3B since its used as a base for calculation of allocation of IGST to states for inter-state supplies.

The govt has extended the due date by 2 days, to give taxpayers more time to collate this information.
