GST Collection for December Goes Beyond Rs 1 Lakh Crore

The GST revenue collection for December 2019 has crossed Rs 1 lakh crore for the second month in a row. There has been a 9% year-on-year jump in the GST collections. The GST collection received for December 2019 via domestic transactions has shown 16% growth over the collection received during December 2018. As per the government statement, the total number of GSTR-3B returns filed between November and December was 81.21 lakh. 

The December GST collections comprise CGST of Rs 19,962 crore, SGST of Rs 26,792 crore, IGST of Rs 48,099 crore (inclusive of Rs 21,295 crore collected on imports) and cess of Rs 8,331 crore (inclusive of Rs 847 crore collected on imports). The overall revenue earned by the state government and Central government after regular settlement in December 2019 stood at Rs 42,158 crore for the SGST, and Rs 41,776 crore for CGST.

The highest GST revenue collection of Rs 16,530 crore for December 2019 was recorded by Maharashtra (Rs 16,530 crore), followed by Karnataka which recorded a collection of Rs 6,886 crore, and Tamil Nadu which recorded a collection of Rs 6,422 crore.

The GST collection in November witnessed a 9% growth and stood at Rs 1.03 lakh crore. The gross GST collection for October 2019 stood at Rs 95,380 crore. In September, the collection stood at Rs 91,916 crore, while the tax collection for August stood at Rs 98,202 crore.
