FM to Launch the National Monetisation Pipeline Today

The National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) consists of a list of all the government’s brownfield infrastructure assets sold in the following four years. Along with rendering visibility to investors, NMP will also act like a medium-term roadmap for the government’s asset monetisation initiative.

The National Monetisation Plan will be worth about Rs 6 trillion and will comprise a range of assets. The assets that would be monetised will include power grid pipelines, national highways, Toll-Operate-Transfer (ToT), etc.

In her budget speech, Finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, mentioned that monetisation of operating public infrastructure assets is a crucial financing option concerning new infrastructure construction. Nirmala Sitharaman also mentioned that an asset monetisation dashboard would be ready to monitor progress and render visibility to investors.

The government does not only see asset monetisation as a funding mechanism; it sees it as a strategy for augmenting and maintaining infrastructure. The NMP book is stated to be launched in the presence of Amitabh Kant Niti Aayog CEO, Rajiv Kumar Niti Aayog Vice Chairman, and Secretaries of concerned ministries whose assets comprise the monetisation plan.
