Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that a new version of Bluetooth contact-tracing app has been rolled out for 5 million JioPhones. These are the low-cost internet-enabled devices sold by the telecom division of Reliance Industries.

The initiative focuses on increasing the reach of Aarogya Setu app towards the less privileged individuals who cannot afford to have smartphones. Aarogya Setu app was launched in the previous month that uses Bluetooth and GPS-based technology to alert users if they come in contact with people who may later test positive for COVID-19.
So far, cumulatively about 100 million downloads have been made by Indians.
