Closing Bells: The BSE Sensex Close the Day Over the 48,000 Levels

The Indian benchmark indices closed the day over 0.7% higher. Then gains in the indices were led by metal and banking stocks. Even the mid and small-cap stocks had a good day in the office as most of them gained considerably. FMCG, IT, and pharma stocks curtailed the gains in the indices as they closed in the red. 

The S&P BSE Sensex closed the day at the 48,080.67 levels. It expanded by 0.79% or 374.87 points over the days. As many as seventeen of the thirty stocks that form the Sensex index advanced, three closed nearly flat, while the remaining ten closed the day in the negative terrain. 

ICICI Bank emerged as the most significant gainer. Its stock price closed 3.6% higher on Thursday. HCFC, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank and SBI followed it; their share price surged by 2.67%, 2.30%, 2.25%, and 2.12%, respectively. The share price of Kotak Bank, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank and ITC jumped 1.99%, 1.77%, 1.16%, and 1.13%, respectively. 

The other stocks to close the day in the green are Dr Reddy’s, L&T, NTPC, ONGC, Reliance, Bajaj Finserv, PowerGrid and Bharti Airtel. The share price of Maruti, Infosys, and HCL Tech closed the day nearly flat. Titan turned out to be the most significant loser among the Sensex index. Its share price fell by 2.75%. 

Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paint, Nestle India, UltraTech Cement, Tech Mahindra, M&M, IndusInd Bank tanked by over 1%. The other stocks to close the day lower are TCS and Sun Pharma. 

The NSE Nifty 50 closed the day higher by 0.77% or 109.75 points. It wrapped up the day at 14,406.15 points. Among the fifty stocks that constitute the Nifty index, twenty-four closed higher, six closed nearly flat, while the remaining twenty closed lower. Wipro gained the most while Shree Cement lost the most.
