CBDT had launched a new e-filing portal on 7th June 2021 to provide smooth and speedy e-filing services to portal users. However, there are glitches on the new portal that the department is working to fix.
On 13th June, CBDT announced a relaxation in the electronic filing of the income tax forms 15CA and 15CB for foreign remittances due to the ‘glitches’ faced on the new e-filing portal. The announcement stated that the forms for foreign remittances could be submitted manually by the end of this month.
The Income Tax Act mandates the electronic submission of Form 15CA and 15CB through the e-filing portal in foreign remittances. Hence, the person making any payment to foreign sources has to upload Form 15CA and a certificate from a Chartered Accountant in Form 15CB on the e-filing portal. The forms are to be uploaded on the e-filing portal before submitting the copy to the authorised bank for making any foreign remittance.
The relaxation was given as many users reported that they faced issues with the new e-filing portal as some functionalities were still not available.
The taxpayers faced difficulties submitting the income tax forms 15CA and 15CB on the new e-filing portal. As a result, the income tax department decided to allow the manual submission of these forms until 30th June 2021.
The department stated that they would add the facility for generating the ‘Document identification number’ on a later date for the forms submitted manually during this period.
