Faceless Assessment: CBDT launched Exclusive Email ID to Register Grievance

The Hon’ble Union Finance Minister proposed introducing the faceless e-assessment scheme in the sessions of Union Budget 2019. The faceless e-assessment scheme seeks to eliminate the human interface between the taxpayer and the Income Tax Department (ITD).

The faceless e-assessment scheme of 2019 had been amended on 13th August 2020 and renamed as the faceless assessment scheme. This scheme applied only to scrutiny assessment and best judgment assessment. However, as per the Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation and Amendment of Certain Provisions) Bill 2020, faceless assessment scheme will now bring other provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961 under its purview.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) started issuing notices under the faceless assessment scheme, and few taxpayers have queries regarding the notices. The CBDT announced an exclusive email ID to resolve the taxpayers’ queries.

The taxpayers can register grievances regarding notices under section 142(1) of the Income Tax Act issued under the faceless assessment scheme 2019. The CBDT dedicated the mail ID: feedback.notice.neac@incometax.gov.in for receiving the queries, including roving questionnaires. The department also announced that the grievances received in the above email should be closely monitored by a team of officials at the National e-Assessment Centre.
